minutes were approved.

This year will soon be history and the chapter is now taking dues for 2010 so when you're writing that check to charity
for Christmas...
Announcements:
- Report on Art Michaud's progress. Art is at home and healing; Tony is still in the hospital. FYI - Art & Tony were
both in a sudden engine stoppage incident and crash while attempting to make an emergency landing at Pilot Country, X05.
- Old Buzzards flights? Dean still working on website sign up page.
Old Business:
- Zephyrhills airport is having an airshow on April 10th (Saturday before Sun N Fun). Our EAA Chapter is teaming
with Chapter 1181 out of Z-Hills to assist with a booth. Show of hands of possible volunteers indicated 10 -12 people
might be interested. Scott spoke to Z-hills EAA and they are willing to split the proceeds with us.
- Christmas Party - Scott spoke with Mike Boyce about reserving the clubhouse. Price for is $7.50 per person.
Vote was for Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Starts at 1900 hrs (7:00 PM). Vote was to hold the party at River Ridge
Clubhouse(Putters). Same format as last year, i.e. bring desserts and a gift, just different location.
- John Voda spoke about Young Eagles - Oct 24 is the Hidden Lake picnic date which conflicts with the Ridgewood H.S.
Young Eagle date.
- Sid asked about the number of Young Eagle flights from the Chapter this year? An informal count was a total of
53 for 2009.
- Next flyout? Last time Chapter discussed this subject it was decided to wait until Fall. Nothing firm decided.
Possible candidates - the Honalawanna Inn at Venice airport, Bartow, Cedar Key, Inverness, Plantation Inn at Crystal
River, AOPA summit in November at Peter O Knight. Decision postponed again.
New Business:
- Scott needs ideas for future month's speakers. December is Christmas party, but need ideas for future
months.
- Discussion regarding continuing our meetings at River Ridge clubhouse. Positives - nice environment, breakfast.
Negatives - difficult to schedule aviation related events. Motion made based on availability to do wet season (June - Oct)
at Putters and dry season (Nov - May) at Hidden Lake. Scott Post made motion, seconded Bill Rouseau. Motion passed.
Safety Tips:Stay current. When making long trips keep the big picture in mind, especially
in winter. Watch the location of fronts and high and low pressure areas. Know what to expect around each type of front.
Meeting Program:This month's presentation was by Jim Minary and Marco Grillo with the FAA.
Jim & Marco are with the FAA FAST Team and are focused on safety, not enforcement, see www.faasafety.gov. Or... you can
click on the "Links" tab on the EAA791 website and click on: FAA Saftey site (FASST Team).
Jim spoke about the different types of airspace and emphasized the following points:
- Need for situational awareness
- Need to know the different types of airspace.
- Need to communicate and the fact that this is highly recommended even when in "uncontrolled" airspace.
- Weather minimums for the different types of airspace, i.e. Class D,C,B,E, & G. Also, Restricted Areas,
Military Operations Area (MOA), Alert Areas, Warning Areas, Military Training Routes (MTRs), ADIZ.
- Presidential TFRs - These occur frequently and without warning, especially in the Tampa area and the FAA
has no discretion when this violation occurs!!!
- Discussion of FAA enforcement activity. Generally, you want to attempt to co-operate with the FSDO and
try to figure out what happened and how to prevent a re-occurrence.
Marco had the following points:
- He is based out of Lakeland.
- FAA Safety will have a safety "stand-down" during Sun-N-Fun Saturday, April 17, 2009. This will
not be a military type "stand-down" where no flying occurs. It will be data driven and will emphasize local problems.
There will be several different subjects/areas - e.g. loss of control, pilot deviations (airborne & surface), operating
Part 91 (flying by the numbers), and improper maintenance by pilots/owners.
- Airspace can change due to letters of agreement between municipalities and the FAA. Questions, check the AIM.
- Difference between DVFR and VFR flight plans for penetrating the ADIZ? Suggest that one look this up in the AIM.
Hint - the one thing I didn't realize is that my airplane's 4 inch registration letters aren't valid. Time to pull out
the black electrical tape!
- Class E and Class G airspace particulars. Class E is controlled airspace, G is not. This gives protection to everyone.
- If you want to contact Jim or Marco their email addresses are: James.minary(at)faa.gov and marco.a.grillo(at)faa.gov
- Note - "(at)"has been substituted for the "@" symbol above to prevent automated web crawlers from picking up Jim & Marco's email addresses.
Project Status:
- Alan Uhr -Zenith 601 Absent.
- Pete P. (Falco) - No progress on the Falco.
- Les C. (GP4) - Brake repairs, master cylinders sat too long and corroded.
- Wayne (C-150) - Working on wings.
- Marcel B. (Lancair) - Flying approaches to Hidden Lake at 120 MPH. Whew!
