September 12, 2009 at the River Ridge Clubhouse meeting room with the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence.

Announcements:
- Pete Gouteirre has moved to Connecticut.
- John Edwards noted that a new electric fuel hose reel has been installed at Hidden Lake and asked that we all take
the time to familiarize ourselves with it.
Old Business:
- John Voda discussed October 24 Young Eagle date for Ridgewood H.S.
- Next Chapter fly-out? Last time Chapter discussed this subject it was decided to wait until Fall. Nothing firm was
decided. Some possible candidates - the Honalawanna Inn at Venice airport? Bartow, Cedar Key, Inverness, Plantation Inn
at Crystal River, Peter O Knight. Nothing was decided and topic is to be continued until next month's meeting.
- EAA Chapter at Z-hills is having an airshow sponsored by the airport authority. Does Chapter 791 want to put on some
volunteer activity to raise money for the chapter? Show of hands of possible volunteers. About 10 -12 people might be
interested. Would we do something by ourselves or partner with the Z-hills chapter? Nothing decided.
New Business:
- John Voda spoke about his experience with a former airplane owner who hadn't flown in a long time. John is looking into
"Old Buzzards" flights similar to the Young Eagle flights.
- A general discussion was held about meeting at Putters vs. the airport pavilion as a meeting location. Group consensus?
Sheriff's hanger possibly? Nothing was decided.
- Christmas Party - the Chapter decided to make a decision about where to hold the party. Any other locations? The consensus
was to hold at River Ridge Golf Course Clubhouse. There were some questions such as - Is it open in the evening? Is a buffet
available? Can it be catered? Can we bring in desserts? Should the party be on a weekday or weekend? Motion was made
for Scott to make arrangements, seconded by Marcell. Motion was passed. The question was raised whether the preference was for
weekday or weekend? Rodney mentioned possible conflicts with other parties if held on the weekend. John Voda made a motion to
hold the party at the second Saturday of December in the evening. Marcell seconded. Motion was passed. If the facilities are not
available Scott is to send an email with alternate dates.
Safety Tips:Pitot static system checks every two years and the VOR every 30 days for IFR flying.
Meeting Program:This month's presentation was an extemporaneous discussion of people's first
time experiences at Oshkosh.
Some of John Edward's recollections (this year was his first time there):
- There was a 12% increase in attendance this year.
- Looooong lines for tickets, and parking.
- John saw the Airbus 380, the Virgin Galactic "mothership".
- Also, John spoke about touring the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington.
- The Boeing hanger is BIG! It has underground tunnels for moving people around.
- He saw some of the new wide bodies, i.e. the first 787. The most critical component in the construction of these airliners
is the center-section fuel tank.
Alex Kratzer spoke about his first time experience at Oshkosh. Some of his thoughts were:
- Long walk to the festival grounds from a dorm that he stayed in. He stayed at the Pioneer airport.
- Oshkosh is like Sun-N-Fun, but larger. Alex said you need 5 days to see it all.
- Also, Alex asked for a projector for next meeting to do a presentation. Bill Y. said he had one.
Mike Muetzel had some good comments about a "cheapskates" guide to Oshkosh:
- Stay at the college dorms. This is a good deal but might not have air conditioning.
- Mike doesn't recommend camping if you are with your wife. (Not unless you are lucky and she likes to camp).
- Flying in and camping next to the aircraft works pretty good. No lines for tickets, or parking. Folding bike in
your plane works well. One can volunteer and there are volunteer dinners. After hours is a good time to look around.
Showers - lines in the morning and evenings. So take a shower some other time.
- Clothes - take boots, flip-flops, tee shirts, long sleeve shirts, sun hats, cold weather hats, shorts, long pants,
winter clothes, summer clothes. Plan for weather from the 40's to the 90's
Project Status:
- Pete P. (Falco) - Chasing vacuum leak on new/old C-172, no progress on the Falco.
- Les C. (GP4) - Gear folded on first taxi test, minor damage, design mod fixed problem.
- Wayne (C-150) - Working on wings.
- Marcel B. (Lancair) - Flying approaches to Hidden Lake at 120 MPH. Whew!
- Rodney (Swift, Skybolt) - Polishing the Swift. No progress on skybolt.
- John V. (Lancair) - Lancair IVP Working on the floorboards
- Jerry A. (RV-8) - Wing tanks not quite ready for pro-seal.
- Charles (Mustang II) - Scratch building, learning flush rivets. Need shrinker-stretcher machine. Working on tailcone belly skins.
- Dean P. (RV-6A) - 13 hours total. His eyeball is fixed and he's back flying.
- Scott M. (Mustang II) - Finished instrument panel and NACA inlets.
50/50 Winner: Total was $28. Winner was Rodney Daulton!
Last item: Scott has customized shirts available.
Adjournment: Scott Murphy adjourned meeting at 1015 hrs. The next general meeting will
be at 0900 hrs on Saturday, October 10th at the River Ridge Golf Course clubhouse on Decubellis Road.
