The regular chapter meeting will be held on September 12. Future chapter meetings will also be held on the second Saturday of each month, and will be continued on that date for the foreseeable future. Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in building, restoring, and flying airplanes. See instructions to our meeting place (River Ridge Golf course) at the bottom of this newsletter.

Opening: Scott Murphy called the meeting of EAA Chapter 791 to order at 0915 hrs on August 8, 2009 at the River Ridge Clubhouse meeting room with the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence.

Guests and First Timers: Phillip Gunter and wife from Tupelo Mississippi.

Approval of Previous Months Minutes: Motion to accept and seconded. Previous months minutes were approved.

Treasurers Report: See Les Conwell for more information. We have 45 dues paid members. If you have not yet paid your dues for this year please do so ASAP.

Announcements:Z-Hills airport is holding a fly-in and is asking for volunteers to man a concession stand. Scott asked if we are interested. General discussion ensued but nothing decided.

Old Business: John Voda discussed October 24 Young Eagle date for Ridgewood H.S.

New Business: Need to start thinking of where we want to hold the Christmas Party in order to reserve the room. Idea was raised to hold it at the River Ridge Golf Course Clubhouse where we were meeting. Volunteer for bringing the coffee and drinks to the next meeting is not needed while we meet at River Ridge. Scott noted that if we stay at River Ridge they would be willing to arrange a shuttle service from the runway to the meeting place.

John Voda discussed Purdue University's aviation program.

Safety Tips:Craig LaPorte discussed that 122.75 is to be used for air to air comm per the FAA.

Meeting Program:This month's presentation was a VFR and airspace review by Dave Miller. Dave is a member of EAA, AOPA, SSA, USHPGA and is a flight instructor for airplanes and weight shift ultralights. And is a voting member of ASTM F37 committee for LSA, weight shift, glider, and engine sub-committees:

• Discussed various aspects of current charts, airport facility directory, and notams.
• FAA publishes a book on chart symbols and colors.
• Did you know the Tampa Class B and mode C veil do not overlap since they are centered on different things? Class B is based on surveillance radar (at Tampa) and mode C on the airport which are slightly different. Look closely at the Tampa chart next time.
• Something new - VFR reporting/way points (e.g. VPHUC) that locate edges of controlled airspaces. Can be used as GPS waypoints, but don't use for reporting location to ground based controllers.
• Airspace mnemonic "A" is above, "G" is ground, "E" is everywhere else.
• In eastern USA "G" is 1200 AGL and 700 AGL around airports due to approaches.
• Out west "G" goes to 14500 AGL.
• The magenta rings, called a vignette, denote the "G" 700 ceiling, called a vignette.
• Whats the difference between "G" and "E"? The primary is the visibility requirements. "E" is 500 below/1,000above/2,000 horizontal from clouds. "G" is clear of clouds.
• "C" need to communicate and have a transponder.
• FAR 91.155 is basic VFR weather minimums.
• MEF is Maximum Elevation Figure, shown for quadrants. Is the highest object rounded to 100 ft and add 100 ft. Quadrants are 30 minute squares.
• Did you know that at one time there were many Prime Meridians? In 1884 there was a conference to decide on one Prime Meridian. Guess what country is the sole exception that still has their own Prime Meridian?? Hint... think Paris.

• Les C. (GP4) - Fixed ignition problem (soaked injector in Hops No. 9). FAA inspection on Monday!!!
• Wayne (C-150) - Working on wings.
• Marcel B. (Lancair) - Flying approaches to Hidden Lake at 120 MPH. Whew!
• Rodney (Swift, Skybolt) - Polishing the Swift.
• John V. (Lancair) - No progress.
• Jerry A. (RV-8) - Wing skins drilled, working on wing tanks.
• Charles (Mustang II) - Scratch building, learning flush rivets. Need shrinker-stretcher machine. Working on tailcone belly skins.
• Dean P. (RV-6A) - Airplane flying, pilot recovering from cataract surgery.
• Scott M. (Mustang II) - Finished instrument panel and NACA inlets.

50/50 Winner: Total was $34. Winner was Jerry Allison!

Last item: Pete Goutierre - Pete spoke about his past accident investigations and the barrier language can be. If in doubt, make the other party repeat the communication. Pete spoke about a Saudi flight that could not understand the JFK controller. Pete also told us the adventure of flyers in Calcutta. It involved mistresses in a Calcutta high rise (5 floor), another man showing up unexpectedly, being on a 5th floor ledge w/o clothes, getting to the other side of the building to a friends apartment, pigeons defending their nests, a guard chasing the intrepid flyer, retrieving clothes, and finally marrying the girl.

Adjournment: Scott Murphy adjourned meeting at 1115 hrs. The next general meeting will be at 0900 hrs on Saturday, September 12th at the River Ridge Golf Course clubhouse on Decubellis Road.

Chapter meetings are now held at the River Ridge Golf Course clubhouse (11022 Tee Time Circle, New Port Richey, 727-848-1048) starting 9:00 AM. There is ample parking in front of the building. To get to the River Ridge Golf Course clubhouse you go EAST on Ridge Road (past Hidden Lakes) until it ends. Once there, you take a right turn and you are on Decubellis Road. Take Decubellis south a short distance untill you see Tee Time Circle on your left. Turn onto Tee Time Circle, the clubhouse entrance will be on your right. To join us for breakfast show up around 8:00-8:30.
