***MEETING AT RIVER RIDGE CLUBHOUSE DUE TO WX***

The Chapter's next regular meeting will be held on February 13th 2010. Future chapter meetings will also be held on the second Saturday of each month, and will be continued on that date for the foreseeable future. Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in building, restoring, and flying airplanes. Meetings are held at the River Ridge Golf Course clubhouse from May through September and at the Hidden Lake Airport pavilion from October through April. See driving directions for both places at the bottom of this newsletter. Exceptions are made and things can change on a monthly basis so watch this space for notices. This month's meeting has changed to River Ridge at the last minute (2-12-2010) due to weather.

Presidents Corner: Have you ever stopped to think about how far technologically we have come in aviation. Think of this. Man's first flight takes place in 1903. In 1969 we walk on the moon. In 66 short years we go from not being able to fly at all to walking on the moon. That is some kind of progress!!! Also, think of navigation. In the 1940's we relied mainly on pilotage and dead reckoning. Now some 60+ years later we have GPS units that not only tell you exactly where you are, but also can show you a picture, in color, of the terrain around you, and real time weather info along with a ton of other features. It makes me wonder where we will be 30 years from now? What is possible that we haven't even thought of yet? It should prove to be an interesting journey to watch!.

Opening: Scott Murphy called the meeting of EAA Chapter 791 to order at 0920 hrs on January 9, 2009 at the River Ridge Clubhouse meeting room with the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence.

Guests and First Timers: The chapter has a new member, Edward Heater.

Approval of Previous Months Minutes: There were no minutes for the previous month. The Chapter's Christmas party was held in place of a meeting.

Treasurers Report: See Les Conwell for more information. Les reported the balance in the checking account after paying expenses for the Christmas Party. This month expenses that will need to be paid are a re-Incorporation Fee and Chapter EAA Fee. 2009 is history and it's time to pay those 2010 dues.

Announcements:

• Report by John Voda. Last year EAA Chapter 791 flew 134 Young Eagle flights. Previously, the Chapter had expressed an interest in flying "Old Buzzard" flights but there was concern about liability and whether this would be covered by the EAA insurance policy. There was a discussion about conducting "Old Buzzard" flights using the Young Eagle form there is an EAA program for adult orientation. The program is for anyone older than 18. John Voda will check with EAA to ensure that the Chapter would be covered by the EAA policy for this activity.

Old Business:

• Zephyrhills airport is having an airshow on April 10, 2010, the Saturday before Sun-N-Fun. Our Chapter is teaming with Chapter 1181 out of Zephyrhills to either assist or to do our own booth. Scott spoke to them and they are willing to split proceeds. There was a show of hands whether to have our own booth or not. Decision was to assist.
• Update on Art Michaud and passenger. Passenger is at home recuperating. Art is at home and has graduated from a walker to a cane.

New Business:

• Scott needs ideas for future month's speakers. Programs through March are arranged, but need ideas for future months.
• The Chapter discussed ideas for presentations - ideas were to have the FAA Tampa class "B" controllers, FAAST programs, individual builders discussing their projects/type of aircraft, FAA ADS "B" program(??).
• Regarding the Chapter's April meeting - Because of Sun-N-Fun, April 13 - 18, the Chapter needs to decide whether to have an April meeting. There was a discussion whether to have an abbreviated meeting, i.e. without a program and to coordinate it with the Zephyrhills airshow. Also discussed annual chapter camping activities. Since the Chapter has already committed to ZPH, decision was to defer making a decision until February or March meeting.

Safety Tip:Watch out for deer or sandhill cranes on the runway!

Meeting Program:This month's presentation was by Dean Psiropoulos who showed a video on EAA 246 at old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in New York. You can get more information at their website at www.oldrhinebeck.org .

Project Status:

• Ed/Alex K.(Piper Archer)- Repainted by Hawk (Vandenburg). Re-upholstering.
• Wes/Gloria (Piper Colt) - Replacing fabric covering.
• Alan Uhr (Zenith 601) - Wings removed to comply with AD (about $350 and 80 hours work).
• Pete P. (Falco/C-172) - Ordered wood for Falco.
• Les C. (GP4) - 3hrs TTSN! Left gear door MIA somewhere over BKV.
• Wayne (C-150) - Working on wings.
• Marcel B. (Lancair) - 110 hours and flying approaches to Hidden Lake at 120 MPH. Whew!
• Rodney (Swift/Skybolt) - Polishing the Swift. No progress on skybolt.
• John V. (Lancair) - Working on floorboards.
• Jerry A. (RV-8) - No news.
• Charles (Mustang II) - No news.
• Dean P. (RV-6A) - 23 hours total.
• Scott M. (Mustang II) - Still waiting for aileron skin replacements.

50/50 Winner: Total was $19.00 and the Winner was Jerry Lee.

Last items: Discussion of candidates for EAA Academy at Oshkosh. Decision was to wait until May meeting for nomination. Chapter discussion on Pancake Breakfast, nothing decided. Scott Post still has EAA791 embroidered shirts available, nice polos.

Adjournment: Scott Murphy adjourned meeting at 1134 hrs. The next general meeting will be at 0900 hrs on February 13th at the Hidden Lake Pavilion.

********* RIVER RIDGE GOLF COURSE MEETING PLACE ***********
May through September meetings are held at the River Ridge Golf Course clubhouse (11022 Tee Time Circle, New Port Richey, 727-848-1048) starting 9:00 AM. There is ample parking in front of the building. To get to the River Ridge Golf Course clubhouse you go EAST on Ridge Road (past Hidden Lakes) until it ends. Once there, you take a right turn and you are on Decubellis Road. Take Decubellis south a short distance untill you see Tee Time Circle on your left. Turn onto Tee Time Circle, the clubhouse entrance will be on your right. To join us for breakfast show up around 8:00-8:30.

********* HIDDEN LAKE PAVILLION MEETING PLACE ***********
October through April meetings are held at the Hidden Lake Pavilion in the Hidden Lake Community at 9am. There is ample parking in front of the building. To get to the pavilion you go in the WEST entrance to the community (north off Ridge Road) and follow Airway Boulevard parallel to the runway to the north end. Continue through the open gate till you see the cars and park on the left. The Hidden Lake Airport Community is adjacent to Ridge Rd about one mile east of Little Rd and four miles east of US Highway 19.
