President’s Corner:

Independence Day.  An annual celebration commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776.

For our great country we all know Independence Day as a great summer holiday on the 4th day of July.   Time to spend with family and friends, perhaps go to the beach and or cook out and maybe for some of us a chance to take a short flight somewhere.

However you celebrate our Independence Day you have to admit it's still the greatest country in the world.  We find ourselves discussing user fees, high taxes, gas prices, etc. But at least we still have a say so in our daily life and the activities we choose to participate in.  What a great place to live.

In any case Happy Fourth of July!  Or if you are reading this after the holiday I hope enjoyed the holiday and had a chance to spend some quality time with your family and or just relaxing.

Fly Safely
John

P.S. Don't forget our chapter’s Young Eagle event on Saturday July 7th at Hidden Lake.

F.         Safety Tips:

Air Port Runway Incursions. 39 Reported Incursions have been recorded at Southeastern US  airports in the past year.  12 have been at the Albert Whitted airport in St. Pete.  Watch and pay attention to your surroundings at unfamiliar airports and be sure to READ Back and understand your taxiing instructions.

G.                            Meeting Program:

John Edwards lead us in a discussion as to what type of chapter we want to be:

It seems like we are part of 3 types: Social, Project Building, and Flying

The following members have stepped up and volunteered to organize members into each of the groups and organize activities that we all can participate and enjoy.        Art Michaud will head up the Flying Division – Fly outs, Fly Ins, Poker Runs, Old Buzzards and Young Eagles.

Bruce Waters will head up the Social Division – Pancake Breakfast Schedule, Cookouts, SunAFun Camping, and the Christmas Party.

Pete Porebeski will head up the Builders Project Divion – Instruction, Projects and the need to know stuff for building airplanes.

Bruce Waters also did an awesome job in setting up the SunNFun campsite again this year.  The campsite was set up and established 3 weeks prior to the event with periodic visits to assure site integrity, Severe wind and rain destroyed tents and poles prior to the opening, but Bruce and company went out and patched things up to make the event a success for all. A picture perfect camp site was enjoyed by all.

H.                Project Review:

I.                   Rodney Daulton has started on the wings of a Skybolt.  His Swift was

awarded the Grand Champion Award at the Swift Fly-in at Athens, Tenn.  Congratulations to Rodney for a great job and fine workmanship on the shiny Swift.
