The Chapter’s regular meeting will be held on January 10th.   . Future chapter meeting will also be held on the second Wednesday of each month, and will be continued on that date for the foreseeable future. Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in building, restoring, and flying airplanes. The meetings will be held in Art Michaud’s hangar in the Hidden Lake Community starting at 7:00 PM. There should be ample parking along the Merlin street sides. Remember to get into the community, you must hit the “Key” button twice and then enter the secret code MMDCLXX.  Hidden Lake Community is off Ridge Rd about three miles east of Little Rd.

President’s Corner:

Happy New Year! I hope you had a chance to enjoy the holidays and spend time with friends and family. Our annual EAA Christmas dinner at Starkey Ranch was a great success, everyone had a great time and left well fed. My thanks to Scott Murphy, Lindon Browne, Rodney Daulton, and Harris Sullivan for the work they did in putting this year’s dinner together. If you didn't make the dinner last month don't miss it in 2007, it's a great time to spend with fellow 791 members and their family.

As we move into 2007 I would guess that many of us have made resolutions for the New Year and we just might have already broken one or two. For me it's; drop a few pounds, and exercise more often (sound familiar?). Whatever resolutions you might have made I hope that you also aspire to learn more about flying. And lets face it that's why we all get together as a group at least once a month. The more we learn the more enjoyable our experiences with aviation, whether your in the middle of building your first plane, flying every weekend or as a profession, or just enjoy talking about aviation there is always room to learn more.

We all owe it to ourselves to learn more about aviation and as a member of EAA we have a lot of resources available to us. One of those resources is other chapter members. As a member of 791 you can also play an important role in helping someone else. One way to do that is to actively participate at our meetings. Sharing a safety tip can do this, or by

presenting at a meeting about any subject that you think would be of value to our members.

So I have two questions for you for this New Year. First what topics would you like to see us cover during our meetings over the course of 2007 and what other activities would you like to see our chapter do (i.e.. more pancake breakfast, lunch or breakfast fly out's, more young eagle events, etc.). Second, what experience, skill, and specific knowledge do you have that you can share with the rest of us? I'd really like to hear from you so please drop me at note at cessna172@gmail.com

I look forward to seeing you at Januarys meeting. Fly safely.

John

Chapter Meeting Minutes:

There were no minutes taken at the last meeting as no business took place. It was really a Christmas party for the Chapter. Next month it will be different.

Question of the Month: By Bob Berghoefer

In December we asked what VMF stands for in Navy terms?

Answer: V= Heavier than Air,

               Marine,

               Fighter.

For January we are asking,” What had no wheels, floats, or waterproof hull (Circa 1932 US Navy), yet it made many successful landings far out to sea. What was this strange thing”?

Young Eagles Note:

The next Young Eagle's Day is planned for Saturday, February 17, 2007 at
9:00 AM at Pilot Country Airport on Hwy 52 at US 41 in Pasco County, just
north of Land O' Lakes. We will be flying Boy Scout Troop 339 which is
working on their Aviation Merit Badge. The rain date is Saturday, March 3,
2007.

The number of scouts will be known better as we get closer to the date, but
we are guessing at least 15 to 30. We would like this to be a one-on-one
experience for the scouts. They will have received their initial ground
training at their weekly meetings before the flight.

Please let John Voda or Sid Miller know if you can volunteer your airplane,
be a pilot, or perform as a ground crew to help with this Young Eagles day.
